LOSC in translation.
By: Shazback |Well, with the transfer window closing, it’s always good to look back on your new arrivals, and then pit them against those of your next opponent.
Lille will be coming to Rennes this Saturday, and I bet they’ll want to take all 3 points, after their first loss this season (1-0 against Monaco). And to do […]
Auxerre cruise to… a 5th defeat.
By: Shazback |After brushing aside Metz thanks to a Thomert brace, I’ll sadly admit that Rennes’ 2-0 away win against Auxerre wasn’t the show I was expecting it to be.
Sure, winning makes any game better, but Rennes seemed to not want to be too harsh on an Auxerre side that is already battered black and blue : […]
Metzy mess and Thomert grabs two.
By: Shazback |Now, I know I’m late. Damn late. But stick with me, because Rennes won, and won with class.
You’ve got to know when you were wrong, and I was wrong about Olivier Thomert. After he failed to score in 11 games out of 11 last season, I was expecting him to be pushed down the picking […]
They’re in quite a Metz.
By: Shazback | Rennes are going to be hosts to Metz later today, so let’s see what any Rennes fans can expect from the game.
Metz are not really in top gear yet, and the Ligue 2 champions are last in Ligue 1, with only 1 point taken from 4 games, thanks to a 0-0 home draw with […]
A last transfer?
By: Shazback |Whilst the likes of Real Madrid, Chelsea, or in a slightly different manner Lyon, are finishing fine-tuning their squad, Rennes‘ squad seems set for a minor overhaul.
Not only has Sylvain Wiltord been added to the rooster, but Al-Saad’s Brazilian striker Emerson has joined for 5 Million €. And these two will mean that Briand, […]
Every saga… Has an end.
By: Shazback |The Wiltord transfer saga is over.
After being linked to PSG, OM, some Qatari club and the usual mid-table Premier League hopeful (more or less seriously), the prodigal son has finally come home.
Rennes who’s who. (1)
By: Shazback |Rennes lost quite a few big names over the last two seasons, so people who saw Rennes during the 2005-06 UEFA Cup campaign wouldn’t recognise the squad any more. Källström, Frei, Monterrubio, Utaka, Gourcuff, and a few other players have left the grassy hills of Brittany for greener pastures (and bigger salaries).
Instead, Rennes has continued to find quality players on bargain transfers, and adds them to a great youth system that is recognised by the French Football Association (FFF) as being the best in the country.
Well, let’s start our review of Rennes’ squad with a selection of 3 players.
Do it the Rennes way : start late
By: Shazback |
Hi. I’m Alexandre Lyon, and I go by the alias of Shazback. I’m going to blog rennes.theoffside.com, and keep you up with all the latest news from the Stade Rennais, also known as Rennes.
Now, I can already hear you saying “Stade who ?” and wondering who Rennes are. Shame on you. Rennes aren’t European powerhouses, but they are a well-known French Ligue 1 side, and have been graced by players such as Petr Cech, Kim Källström, Alexander Frei and John Utaka in recent years, as well as being a hotspot of French talent, with Gourcuff, Faty, Briand and Didot having come through Rennes’ youth system, and on the verge of promising carrers.
